February Round Up

February 2007 Round-Up (See The Roundup for details)

What books and/or magazines did I read this month? Magazines! I love magazines. BUT, I am trying to cut back. This past month, I read Mary Englebreit's Home Companion, Creating Keepsakes, Guideposts and Rachel Ray's Everyday.
As for books, I read "The Memory Keeper's Daughter". Loved it!
What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month? We Net-Flixed: " Little Man, Thank You for Smoking, Shopgirl, How to Eat Fried Worms, Little Miss Sunshine, Lady in the Water, What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Ant Bully.
At a late matinee (Friday, February 23) Amanda, Jerry, Kayla and I went to see "The Messengers". It was an edge of your seat thriller for us. We liked it.

What special days did I celebrate and how? Well, there was Valentine's Day. We had cupcakes. It was my boss's birthday and I brought in bagels and cream cheese. Our little Jade was born on February 12.

What illnesses or health concerns did we have in February? No sicknesses, thank goodness. Amanda had her eye exam and we got her a new supply of contact lenses. Took Kayla for new tennis shoes and am having a lift put in the left shoe.
What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family? Took photos of the girl's sled-riding. We had Kayla's friend Dominique stay over. Hmm, just the usual. The theater. Dinner out a couple of times. A lot of shopping this month since the tax refund came. That's about it.
What new foods, recipes or restaurants did I try in February? I can't think that we went anywhere new. We ate at Boston Market and our good old stand-by Eat-n-Park. I ate at Aladdin's. I taught Amanda to make Lazagna.
What special or unusual purchases did I make? Nothing unusual. New clothes, a bathing suit and 3 pair of shoes for Kayla; contact lenses for Amanda; my usual fill of books and magazines for me.
What were this month’s disappointments? My inability to get it together and get organized!

What were my accomplishments this month? Paying A LOT of bills. One more major debt ($450 pd; bal: $1000). The whole family (10 of us) agreeing to where we would vacation and the rental home we would stay in.

Anything else noteworthy to record about February? Jade's birth. Jayme and Amber moving back in together making Ben one happy little boy. Paying a lot of bills and being almost completely debt free. All that is left is a $1000.00 bill and the final $150 to my boss for the car he sold me.

This is Kayla. Sledding, er, attempting to. She is so funny! She spends most of her time face first in the snow. But she loves it! I am ashamed (whole-heartedly) that in her 8 1/2 years of life, these are, I am almost positive, the first photos of her in snow. I am so not a winter outdoors person. Can you believe the end of the month is near!?! Wow! Anyway, this week should go fast. First is payday and then the girls and I are going for our mini-holiday this coming weekend. So looking forward to getting away from it all!

Except for 3 C.J.'s, I have not scrapped a thing this year. What a slow start!!! So, I took a CKU-Home Study Class today for motivation. I love taking classes! It helps me. Oh, and I have a slew of photos coming this week from SnapFish. I need to get totally organized and prepared for the March 23 Weekend Crop I will be attending. I hope to get SO MUCH completed.

This past weekend, the girls and I went to see "The Messenger". For us it was an "edge of the seat" thriller. Saturday was spent spending way too much money - Kayla's new tennis shoes with a lift, then two pairs of dress shoes for her, eye exam and contact lenses for Amanda, clothes and bathing suit for Kay, books and mags for me and Kay, and lots of Starbuck mochas. Later, Amanda and Kayla stayed at Jerry's house and I kept Ben overnight. He is starting to say so many new words. Sunday, Kayla went to work with me. And then the two of us had Shrimp Scampi at Eat n' Park. And that was our weekend.

Okay, back to work. Happy Monday!!

Hit by Ice and Snow

It finally feels and looks like winter here. I am totally embracing the cold, the ice, slush, the huge gas bills this year. All part of my new attitude to enjoy every little nuance.

Also getting bombarded at the office. The work day goes fast, but there is so much more to do. And since I have yet to get a new hard drive for home, I have very little time to check in here. So, have a great weekend! Especially if you are one of the lucky ones who have Monday off. Enjoy!

The photos are Jade (about 3 hours old) and the tired but happy family.

A Little Behind

Well, actually it could be construed as a big behind.

January is a blur, but I am pleased at the goals I listed and actually accomplished. This month's list is rather on the small side, but it is a shorter month, one that I am already behind on. So without further adieu, here is what I hope to accomplish this month:

February Goals
1. Do not procrastinate when receiving CJ's. Complete and mail Terri's by Friday, February 9.
2. Read 1 book.
3. Exercise at least 3 times a week. [ ] Wk 1: Feb 4-10; [ ] Wk 2: Feb 11-17; [ ] Wk 3: Feb 18-24; [ ] Wk 5: Feb 25-28
4. Lose 2 lbs. (I lost 4 in January. Hooray!)
5. Make a difference. Somewhere, somehow, I will.
6. Blog at least once a week. This is great therapy and I love to write (I may not be saying anything) but it feels good to get thoughts and lists down on paper.
7. Continue to keep a journal. Journal thoughts, wish-lists, ideas.
8. Complete scanning heritage photos; take notes; start ordering supplies for March Crop.
9. Continue to become clutter free. This month will be the Living Room. Love this idea found over at OH.
The steps to be done for each room are as follows:
A. Look at each area on Thursday nights
B. decide what can be done with the room to improve it's usage and function
C. identify any organizational items to be bought e.g. baskets, etc.
D. identify tasks that will help organize and utilize the room to it's proper function
E. identify any decorative items that are needed for the room
F. Make list of purchases
G. Make to-do list
H. On the weekend buy items required and make changes to the room.
I. On Tuesday of the following week finish check-in for the week.

Organization is the Key!

Er . . . hmm, yes, well . . . This is my desk this 1st day of February, 2007. It is a bit of a mess. We have been SO BUSY!!! Which is good, but leaves a mount of chaos. Well, I've got the self-evaluation completed and handed in. Now for time sheets, audit letters, filing, etc. And this mess. I have so much to accomplish today and was hoping to post my February goals, maybe later. Well, toast to a new month! Happy Thursday!
