Checking in

Quickly. I have tons to do today. Loads of shopping, laundry, cooking and cleaning. Tomorrow is our 9th Annual Ornament Exchange Party. The sun is shining here today which will be a warm welcome relief after this cold, cold week. Kayla will be coming to help with the last minute plans. And I have a feeling about something, but more about that later.

One and the Big 5-0

Brendan turned one on Saturday, though we celebrated on Sunday. Here he is as the guests arrived:

He picked daintily at his cake:

And while the gang was all there, we tried for a group photo:

and tried:

and tried:

And this is what greeted me when I arrived at the office this morning:

A lot of "over the hill" streamers. I think they got the wrong cubicle. And how is your day going?

Catching up

Thanksgiving and the weekend was fabulous! Black Friday, we did venture out to the mall, but more around 11:00 a.m., not 4:00 a.m. like my sweet, sweet sister. She picked up the sewing machine I want to give to Tera for Christmas and she got it for a fabulous price! Thanks, Cath! Kayla spent the whole weekend and we had such a blast, taking the bus to Squirrel Hill on Saturday to have lunch at B&N and then visit the S. W. Randalls. That's a toy store! Later we put up the big Christmas tree in the family room. This weekend, we'll put up the small one in the living room. On Sunday, Amanda, Kayla, Kaileen and I made more Christmas cards.

We had such a good time and they turned out really cute. The invites for our 9th Annual Christmas Ornament Exchange Luncheon have gone out. I can't believe it's our 9th year. So cool!

It's almost quitting time and little Ben is at home waiting for me. Have a good evening!

Christmas Cards in the Making

With the aide of a few blog and forum challenges, I hope to stay a touch ahead this Holiday Season. Here are a few of the dozen cards I have made so far:

This week the challenge is Christmas ornaments. I have put it off long enough and will be creating those tonight.

The refrigerator is on its way out. It is. It is slowly dying. What a most unfortunate time for the fridge to go on the blink. There goes the budget and the savings, again.

It has been such a busy week! I had Ben and Kayla over the weekend and Kayla's friend Kaileen came over on Sunday. We went to the Dollar Store and then to the grocery store. After dinner, Ben painted a Santa Claus bank and the girls got out the Science Spa kit and made fizzy bath soaps and sea salt rubs. They were so good and we had so much fun.

Work has been really busy and I am working to get the house in order Ben's birthday party on the 22nd. Mr. Tough Guy will be 4.

Kayla, who was being homeschooled, but is too much a people person and told her Mom she HAD to go to school, made the Honor Roll. Hooray, Kayla!

Thursday, November 6, 2008

So, I said . . .

"Ben, we are going to have a birthday party for you." (Ben will be 4 this month) I said do you want to invite Kayla? Yes! Cammi? Yes! Brendan? NO! Then he decided that he wanted no girls, just boys. Ooookkaaay. Brendan is your only male cousin, Ben. The girls are back on the invite list. That was easy.

Who me? (The look of innocence)

I've been planning out Thanksgiving - the guests, the food, the centerpiece. Every year, it seems I need to go out and buy new glassware and this year is no exception.

It's beautiful here in Pittsburgh. Blue skies and upper 60 degree temps. I hope to have Ben and Kayla this weekend, though I don't know what we will be doing. Probably cleaning out the downstairs kitchen to use as storage for the remaining items Amanda has yet to pick up.

Well, I'm on phones. Have a lovely Thursday!

Did you Rock Your Vote?

I didn't . . . yet. The line was LOOOONNNNGGGG, so I'll have to catch it after work. It is another beautiful day here in Pittsburgh. We are so lucky . . . for now. Though I am so not for this Daylight Savings Time. Really. Aren't the loonies sleeping early in the morning? I think so. Don't they prowl more in the evening after they've had adequate sleep? I think so. I left work yesterday at 5:30 p.m. in total darkness. That was not too cool. Alright. I'll get over it.

This is Ben (in the corner) being terrorized by Brendan. Yeah, Ben just doesn't 'get' the little guy. He's not too crazy about him. But Brendan LIKES Ben.

Brendan LIKES Jade, too. Can't say that Jade feels the same way. The little guy comes off too aggressive. But he's so darn cute!

Ahhh, well. Enjoy your day!

It's Only Tuesday????

It feels like Wednesday. Probably because I have this sinus infection, the Comcast people have not replaced the lines so that I have phone and internet service back and the water company is turning off water to the whole neighborhood today and tomorrow between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to repair 'something'. What an incentive to come to work! (except for the sinus infection)

Earlier I may have blogged about Kayla being homeschooled. We looked forward to it. Amanda was enjoying it. But Kayla - she NEEDS friends. She does. She is such a people person. So, she is back in school. And she takes a school bus which she is loving. Soooooo, we needed to go school clothes shopping. (She's such a drama queen!)

Five pairs of jeans, countless number of shirts and two pair of shoes later . . . she's ready.

I lent Amanda my camera for the week as I will miss Halloween with her and the kiddies this Friday. There is no way I would make it out to their house from town in time for the trick or treating. I was going to take 1/2 day but since we are so close to Christmas, I'll save it. We do have a Halloween Party to attend the next day, complete with a bonfire - that will be fun! fun! fun!

Happy Tuesday! (Is it 5:00 yet?????)

The Weekend and a Giveway

Hooray! It's Friday! If you love tea, or know someone who does, hop on over to Making a House a Home to enter a to win an Adagio Tea Starter Set. How cool is that?

This weekend is going to rather busy, and fun! Tonight, Ben and I are going to make frosted brownies for the Halloween party at Kayla's new house tomorrow. During this weekend, I hope to catch up on housework and get the dining room set up.

This week, my parents signed the Deed and then I signed the Deed and now it just needs recorded. And then I will be an official homeowner. Yippee!

Kayla got a cell phone. She called me twice yesterday and once so far today. She is so happy!

Brendan is getting his top front teeth while Cammi lost a few more.

My internet is still not working well. Hopefully the cable guys were at the house today and found the problem. It's always something!

Anyway, I hope you have a fun-filled weekend!!

The crew at Zoo Boo.

Hooray! It's Friday! And I am getting a head cold. UGH! And we have such a busy weekend ahead of us. Tonight, I get Ben. We are going to make frosted brownies for the Halloween party at Kayla's new house tomorrow. Then there is the party and Sunday, I must, MUST, get caught up on laundry and housework. I want to get the bed and dresser left by Amanda up into Jayme's room and then his bed up into the guest room and then, hopefully, start setting up the dining room. I have so much to do before Thanksgiving.

My parents signed the Deed and then I signed the Deed and now it just needs recorded. Yippee!

A Fabulous Find!

Sitting up on the third floor behind the door, like, forever! Seriously. I thought a friend of my Dad's had painted it for him, but he said no, it came with the house. Well, we've had this house since 1962 so that already puts its age over 40. Did a little research on the internet and found a wealth of info on the painter, a Mr. Andrew Severin Gunderson who was a self-taught painter and at the age of 18 opened his own store in Chicago. Just fascinating!! The photo is now hanging above the mantle in the "new" living room.

OMGosh, I have been working on so many projects (too many at once) but I'll be uploading a few soon. My pc is dying, truly, it sucks. I'm thinking of just replacing the hard drive and hoping that does the trick, but it is old and I should just upgrade. Maybe.

Well, it's cold here, but gorgeous. The sky is such a deep blue and the sun is shining. There are so many leaves on the ground. I need to rake.

I got up early and put a stuffed chicken in the crockpot (love that crockpot). The house will smell so good when I get home. I am going to steam those green beans I picked up at the pumpkin farm and make a pan of twice baked potatoes. MMMmmmmm good!

Happy Wednesday!

It's Tradition

Autumn, for our family, has officially begun. We always kick it off with our Church's bi-annual rummage sale. And true to form, it was a cool, crisp morning. Then breakfast at Eat-n-Park, next the Zoo Boo and then a late lunch/early dinner at Panera's and the topper of Saturday - the Haunted House and a hayride. Sunday, the pumpkin farm. And the weather was glorious!! It was. And the weekend was fabulous! Wonderful fun! Friday, Amanda took me grocery shopping. Kayla stayed over. Saturday morning - the Church rummage sale. I got a few goodies, Jayme picked up some old Life magazines, Kayla bought a fuzzy lamp for her desk and a few dolls, earrings and a couple other trinkets. I got my Dad an old camera for his collection and a white wicker framed mirror for my sister and my Mom picked up some aprons and some storage crates. Oh, I also got a sewing machine cabinet and stool for $5.00. It did have a Singer machine, but it needs a new motor and I really only wanted the cabinet and stool.

After breakfast, Mom and Cathy went their way (meaning they went to shop til' they dropped), Jayme went home and Melissa, Amanda, Kayla, Brendan and I went to Zoo Boo. Did I say the day was glorious? Yes, it was cool, but perfect for walking. The Zoo's Haunted House was really cute (not too scary). There were free Slushies and bottles of Pepsi and the children got loads of candy. After our late lunch/early dinner, we went to the Koenig Field Haunted House which was great fun AND scary and topped the evening off with a hay ride.

Kayla and I went home and packed an overnight bag and off to Melissa's we went for the night. The next morning we all gathered at Amanda's house for hot tea and donuts and off to the pumpkin farm we went. The sky was so blue, the moon was visible. We had apple cider and caramel apples and bought blocks of honey and vegetables from the farm. I got a white pumpkin and lots of little ones while Kayla got two big pumpkins. I had thrown a pork roast in the slow cooker at Melissa's and we all went back there for pulled pork sandwiches.

That afternoon we spent playing 31, electronic Monopoly and electronic Life. Then we all weighed in on Wii Fitness and each did a few workouts and laughed ourselves silly at our little Mii's. It was a fabulous weekend!!

Now, I am back to work. When the alarm went off this morning it was 32 degrees out! I went back to bed until it was a little warmer - thank goodness for flex mornings!

Happy Autumn!

To Clean or Not to Clean

I follow and totally love the Flylady's routine of cleaning. Her routine keeps my house clean and me sane and fairly organized. If you haven't tried it, check it out here. I do not know how I would keep this huge house clean without her routines and Kelly's missions.

This was Ben last Saturday. The weather was so glorious we ate lunch on the porch.

That may not be happening this weekend. It's ALOT cooler here today. Downright fall weather. Well, it is the middle of October. But I am still not ready for winter coats and gloves. Or putting the furnace on. Jeez, the bill is bad enough without turning it back on. I am going to have to invest in some electric heaters.

Busy weekend. Tonight grocery shopping. Hate it! Tomorrow - the rummage sale, the Zoo and Sunday, the pumpkin farm. Kayla is staying the weekend - I am so looking forward to that. And I want to work on a scrappy present for Amanda and some cute Halloween decorations with Kayla. The weekend is going to fly by. I know it.

I hope you have a great weekend!

It's Only Wednesday and a Shout.

I have to keep telling myself it's only Wednesday. I've already logged in too many hours here in the office over the past two days, it feels like it should be Thursday or Friday. But tonight we get Ben and I wouldn't want to miss that.

I have a shout for Suzanne who made the Simply Obsessed Design Team. WTG!!!!!!!

It's lovely here again today, a little sprinkling but it should reach 73 out there. (Sigh) Of course, the temps are dropping and we have a filled weekend of outdoor activities. Well, except for Saturday morning, that's the Church Rummage Sale. We will be in line before 8:30 a.m. shivering, I'm sure (this is Kayla's most favorite shopping event of the year), the doors don't open til' 9:00. We've gotten some pretty good bargains in the past years. I can't wait to see what this sale yields. Then we are off to Zoo Boo in the afternoon. Sunday is a visit to the pumpkin farm. I have to get the current photos uploaded and put in fresh batteries. All these events will be Brendan's first.

But today - work. Happy Wednesday!

The Weekend . . .

was fabulous! We are having great weather (I hear it ends Thursday) and this past weekend was fabulous!! I'm repeating myself. We had Ben. He is so cute! Saturday, he woke up at his usual 7:30 a.m. and I said no way! So, Jayme took him and I went back to bed til 9:30. Then we had breakfast, dressed and walked to the store. I took pics but forgot to upload. Will do so later. We played in the yard, swept the yard, had lunch on the porch. I fixed up the "new living room" some more - just added a few more personal touches. It's looking good. I like it. We had dinner, watched some tv and then we were in bed by 10:00. So, when 7:30 a.m. Sunday rolled around, I was ready to get up and get the day started. And it was another fabulous weather day. Ben and I had breakfast and then we walked down to the store cause he wanted sketti and meatballs for dinner. Good thing, too, cause my sister came over and then Amanda and kids came over and then Joey and kids came over (My sister and Joey both have a knack for stopping in at dinner time) and we all sat down to a good dinner (no leftovers), and the children played and it was a really good time. Kayla and Cammi stayed over (no school due to Columbus Day, but I had to work, so it was up to Jayme to hold down the fort). The kids played with the neighbor's granddaughter til about 9:00 and then they each filtered into the living room to catch Charm School. Ben crashed on the couch about 10:00. Kaileen went home about 9:30. Cammi and Kayla colored and then I showed Kayla how to hem her new jeans on the sewing machine. She did a really good job. And we all went to bed by 10:30. Except for Kay. I found her on the couch in the wee hours of the morning with the t.v. still rolling. Covered her. Went back to bed.

It was a fabulous weekend! One for the books . . . or scrapbooks!

What a fabulous weekend!! Really! Cath and Kayla picked me up from work on Friday and we had dinner at Panera's. Stopped at Michael's, got some goodies from their dollar bins, and Kayla bought a rag doll to dress up. On Saturday, Mom came over and we cleaned out the first floor room - new living room! Later Kayla and I boarded a bus and went downtown to join in the celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday. We had a wonderful time!

The Fort Pitt Blockhouse

Pumpkin Ice Cream - MMMMMMMMMM Good!

Eating our Self-Decorated Smiley Face Cookies

The Fireworks!

The Fireworks were awesome! They went off on each side of us, behind us, in front of us. They were gorgeous and went on for 30 minutes. I am SO GLAD Kayla talked me into going - it was a night full of good things.

Monday, again

Today is the Last Day . . .

. . . to sign up for YMBD's "So You Think You Can Scrap" Contest! This is a 6 round contest and there are prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. So, go on over to the forum, get yourself signed up, load a favorite layout and you are ready.

I am participating in the Contest! Whether you join in the contest or choose not to, still come and vote for your favorite submission in this week's round! The poll will open sometime this evening and will remain open throughout the entire weekend, closing at Midnight EST on Sunday.

The video I posted yesterday does not run correctly with the audio. Any suggestions on how to fix this????

Tomorrow is National Card Making Day and there are so many wonderful virtual crops to attend! And with three major holidays coming up, I'm hoping to get a nice number of cards made.

And it's Friday! Hooray for the weekend! Kayla is coming to stay over. She and my sister and I will be eating out tonight. I've rough sketched some blue prints on how to arrange the living room and dining room (with the girls moved out, I've gained two more rooms, plus another kitchen and bath - so much to decorate!). I probably won't get a dagnabit thing done, but I've got huge hopes!

Okay, I do have work to do. Hope your weekend is wonderful!

The Weather Report

I've finally finished uploading the photos and movies from our vacation in Daytona Beach this past August. I think I took more movies than photos this time around. We were there when Tropical Storm Fay blew in. Kayla was a hoot! That wind did blow though we did not get any of the really bad weather. Our vacation was gray and rainy but we still had a blast!

Signs of Fall

I didn't see any. Signs of fall that is. Though the weather is much cooler here, the trees are still green, the flowers are still in bloom. I did, however, find a delicious pumpkin cake treat at Starbucks last evening, but I didn't photograph it, I ate it. Maybe a drive to the mountains this weekend would be in order. But probably not. Kayla is sounding too good, she has one heck of a head cold and she and Brendan are staying over Saturday night. Ben had a fever last night but he was going home today. It's the weather. And my furnace still needs fixed. Geez.

Here is a door hanger Kayla and I collaborated on together. I crocheted the bottom edge using a shell stitch. Kayla laid out the buttons and added the flowers.

I stopped at B&N after work last night and bought the paperback of "Wicked". Started it this morning and can't wait to get back on the bus to read some more.

Things that need done today or, as I am a procrastinator, need to be done soon: Call Ortho for Kayla's follow-up appointment. Call Eye & Ear for Kayla's initial appt. re her tonsils. E-mail VA for pick-up. Clean out fridge. Put out trash. Mop kitchen floor. Think about how scrapbooking has changed my life for layout. Hmmmmmm.

But first update this pleading index. Then go to lunch. Priorities, priorities.

Scrappin' Happy

Sassy Scrapper's Mother Goose Crop was this past weekend. I had Ben and Kayla for the most part, but was able to come up with these two gems:

I was astonished to see that I made it to Round 2 of Bad Girls Top Designer contest. I'm there for the lesson and to learn. But I always enjoy a good challenge! Anyway, this was my entry for week 1's assignment which was layering:

This week's assignment is mixing patterned paper. Mixing papers is not my thing. I usually stick with the whole line. Anyway, my submission is in the Bad Girls' gallery if you'd like to check it out.

What to scrap next? I have a crop retreat at the end of this month. Woo Hoo! I seriously need to start sorting and packing. The good thing about this one is it's close to home sooooo, I can always go home for something forgotten.

Do you Netflix? I just love the instant movie queue they have. I've watched so many on my pc lately. Les Miserables with Liam Neeson, Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon and Much Ado About Nothing with Emma Thompson are really good. Over the weekend, we watched The Bucket List. That was pretty good, too. With the kids gone, I have so much free time in the evenings (not complaining anymore - free time is a good thing).

New season, new TV shows. Tonight is The Biggest Loser and I think, House. I have to check. I'm not very good at remembering what is on when. Ha! Ha! But last night, I was watching a movie on the Disney Channel. Kayla called and was like "Grandma" with total exasperation. Oh, well, after years of flipping between Nick and Disney, it's hard to kick the habit.

Okay, I've rambled enough. I'm going out to photograph signs of fall. Happy Tuesday!

One Week and Counting

After a rocky start, the girls and boy have officially been moved out since August 30th. Looks like it might work this time. Funny how minds/bodies adjust. At first I thought it was the end of the world and now, wow, do I have alot of time to play. And I have played.

I have to put a photo of Ben here because he loves seeing himself on the net. Here he is with two of his favorite toys. That's his Daddy in the background:

And when you think she's lost them all another falls out:

I am in such a creative mood and want to get started on a few of the challenges issued at Sassy Scrappers' Mother Goose Land Crop (starting Friday), but we have been Ben tonight so I don't know what I'll be able to get done. Anyway, some of the challenges are already posted. Check them out! and stop by this weekend, it's sure to be a good time!

Happy Wednesday!

Is it September already? and the Empty Nest Syndrome

Gosh, time does fly! And we have been busy! There was K's operation and our vacation in Daytona, the girls and boy moving into their own home, a bigger load at the office, and just so much! It's been a whirlwind. But I have scrapped. Really. And I've taken tons of photos. And I've stalked blogs and participated in contests and we discovered that we could watch videos on our pc and Netflix has tons of instant viewing films in their cache, though Kayla is totally obsessed with Jeff Dunham and we watch two of his performances over and over again. Or we did. I am going through an empty nest syndrome. Well, partially. Jayme is still here and we get Ben on Wednesdays and every other weekend. But my baby, Amanda, moved into her new home (with Jerry) last Saturday and Kayla went on Sunday. Well, this is the second try. They moved in the week before on Sunday and came back home Wednesday. It's been a rough transition but I think we'll all get settled into a nice groove soon enough.

I've scrapped:

I've taken pictures:

We were in the middle of our vacation when Tropical Storm Fay hit. It was a very wet vacation. But we still had a blast!

Currently, I am participating in Shimelle's Learn Something New Every Day class. This is my second year and she really gets me motivated. Also put my name in for the contest going over at Bad Girls. I participated last year, I am so out of my league, but I have a hard time passing up a good learning experience. Ooh, I hosted my first weekend crop at Sassy Scrapper's. I was so nervous, but it was so fun, I can't wait to do it again. Lot's of crops, monthly bingos and other good stuff happening there.

Hmmm, I feel good. Hope you are having a wonderful day!
