This Month I Learned...

. . .I know there is still one more day in March, but I made my LEARNED list today:
That organization truly is the key.
That if I budget and adhere to it, I can JUST make it to the next paycheck.
That spending time with family is not only rewarding and enjoyable, but can also be a learning experience for myself as well as them.
That starting each morning with a smile pretty much sets the tone for the remainder of the day.
That I would rather listen than talk.
That I miss my sister terribly.
That I “talk” to myself while walking.  This was pointed out by Mister. I do my best problem solving while walking and/or brushing my teeth.
I have also learned that I do pay attention to my surroundings.  That my tree lined street is beautiful.  That blue skies are breathtakingly gorgeous.  That I love my old, needs repair, too many rooms for one person, house.  Love it! That I have become spoiled having a car and so I need to beef up my workout.  That I need to read more books and finish what I start in a more timely manner (I finish, but it takes a while).  That I love my job.  That I have good intentions.
That I learn from others, from reading, from paying attention.
That I truly, truly love my life.
That this child knows me best. Which may not be a good thing. But she loves me just the way I am.
K at 12 yrs, 9 1/2  mos.
My “horrorscope” for today is somewhat fitting to this coming month’s project (Shimelle’s Learn Something New Everyday (I like to do this every so many months in a blog format)) as I attempt to instill good routines, organization and good habits: Habits are habits because you're used to doing them. Whether it's drinking one cup of coffee too many or leaving the house a little too late or coming home cranky and deciding to skip the gym, this is a good time to take some concrete steps for changing at least one (if not more) habit that's not doing anything helpful in your life. Out, out bad habit!

Stormy skies, rain and snow predicted for most of the day.

Los Angeles, Part One

Wow! Time flies! It does. I can't believe it's the weekend again already.  I haven't had a chance to catch up with much.  Los Angeles was cold. Very, very cold.  Despite the cold, I had a great time.  One of the attorneys I work with, his daughter lives at Venice Beach and he made a list of places to see.  We flew in Thursday night (good flight, but COLD) and crossed off one of the items on the list that very night.  In-n-Out Burgers.  Now, I prefer chicken, but the burger I had was good, the produce was very fresh (that gets my vote).  Oh, good milkshake, too.

Next we checked in at the Erwin.  The beach is right around the corner.

I loved our room , which was to me, really a cute apartment, which I would live in here if it was here.
Living room, couch is a sofabed
Off to the right of that sink was the bathroom
Cute little (LITTLE) patio
I totally forgot to take a photo of the bedroom.  It was cute. Had a big screen tv, too.  Big high bed.  Closet. And I can't believe I forgot a photo of the dining area.  Totally cool light fixture. Dagnabit!
Friday morning, Melissa and I walked the beach.  A movie was being filmed there.
To the Beach. Those sheds are concession stands.
Totally cool!
Okay, that's it for now.  Don't worry, I have LOTS more photos to share.
Oh, but after I leave the office, I am on my way to Columbiana, Ohio for scrap-booking. Have a great weekend!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

They opened and they smell good too:
IT"S HERE! The day we leave for Venice Beach!!!  Mel upgraded our seats. We will be taxing over to B's work and then driving out to the airport.  EST 12ish our time; 9ish theirs.
AND of course, it's a lovely day here in PA. Climbing up to 63 deg.
I'm totally packed. Just need to get the hair done at 1.  Talked to Mom. Talked to Amanda. Texted with K. Will see Mister. E-mailed CAS.  Need to text MW and DK.  Yep, that's about it.
Had my performance evaluation. All good.
My desk better look like this when I get back!
Well, minus the water bottles.
Don't know if I'll have access to a pc, but will keep a journal (or try to).  And I'll be using Insta.gram to upload photos to Facebook and Twitter.
That's it.
You all have a great weekend!
Over and out!

Countdown - Day 1

Today is the day to tie up all loose ends before we depart for LA tomorrow.  Ugh! The pressure!  I packed my suitcase first (its small). Decided to use Mom's instead (it's bigger).  Then I put in clothes, took out clothes, put in clothes. Brought the suitcase to work and stored it under my desk. That's it. No turning back.  I will have to do with what I packed.  I'm going to freeze.
Mel came over to the office to meet with LSB. I previewed the interview tape.  I laughed, I cried. It's fabulous! Then I tanned and we went to the Pittsburgh Fish Company for lunch.
It's Daffodil Days here.  I bought two of the potted Daffodils.  One of the attorneys I am responsible for, Mr. T., gave me these:
The List is getting shorter:

Toothpaste & brush
Hairbrush, flat iron
Make-up bag
Thursday - wear tennis shoes, white raincoat.

Make sure kitchen is clean
Wipe down bathrooms
Straighten living room, dining room, bedroom
Finish laundry
Put trash out Thursday morning
Put gas in the car

Quitting time can't come soon enough.

Countdown - Day 2

Working on The List.
K's room looks much better though there is still more to be done, you can walk through there now.
Did laundry but have more.
I picked up meds this morning.
Decided I am going to throw in a sundress and a sweater. JUST IN CASE.
Remember the sunglasses.  I have an allergy to the sun (ironic, huh?) so I NEED the shades. Which reminds me to take the eye meds.  Wonder how I'll transport them - they need refrigerated.
Charge the batteries.
Parked in town today cause I was informed I will be working late.  That kind of sucks cause that cuts into my getting the List completed.
Am eating my very first Jimmy John's Unwich.  Now, Jimmy John's bread is seriously good stuff.  But this Unwich, the lettuce is so cool and crispy. Yum.
Sorry, couldn't wait.
The Unwich, unwrapped
This is good stuff.  I have to find out what type of lettuce this is so I can make my own.

My latest K text (with notations):
K:  Heyy grammy will it be ok if u pay for me to go with S to her church camp
(Hey K, exactly what financial institute do I remind you of?)
M: When and how much?
K: Don't pay attention to this message. Hi
M: What? Don't you want to go?
Then she calls me on the phone to tell me that she was on another phone call. Then instead of answering me, hangs up and texts: in july if not the end of june 30 buckaronies.

To my family: You know that state of confusion I visit often?  I am escorted there.

Wearin' of the Green

Which I did not do.  I wore red.  Had my hair done in the morning and because I am so brilliant - - - got stuck in the parking lot and couldn't get out of town until 1:00. So, I hung around the office catching up on filing til 3:00.
The Hair
Did see the bagpipers and the bomb squad parade down the Boulevard.  Have to say that for once the weather for the St. Patrick's Day parade was fabulous!
The Parade
BUT Mel, B, M and R TOTALLY enjoyed the St. Paddy's Day festivities.  Here's the gang riding to town dressed to the nines:
The Pretty One
The Tough Guy
The Fun Guy
The Wild One
Mel & M
M before he went aerial. Sorry M, had to.

Friday night, Mel and B and I supped at Red Lobster.  I hadn't been there FOREVER! It was so good!!!!
K went to her first school dance.
I watched Unstoppable (excellent) and Morning Glory (will OWN it) and caught up with Survivor.
Had morning donuts with Mel, B and M.
Rode out to Amanda's and visited the kiddies.
Did laundry.
Let the Officer know that I would be out of town later in the week. Asked him to check the place out.
Keep it safe.
And that's about my weekend.
Have a TO DO list made that needs checked off completely by Wednesday night.
Gray jeans - b/pink top (black tee under)
Light blue jean - tee

Well, back to work.
More signs of Spring

Friday, March 11, 2011

Spring really is right around the corner, the first day is March 20, 2011.  The Tulips, or are the Daffodils, I have to ask Amanda, anyway, they are pushing their way through.  See:

These keep coming back every year thanks to Amanda's green thumb
We are have been experiencing LOTS of rain, so much so, that the Wharf is never going to open (slight exaggeration)., and now we are back to snow.
Getting  a lot of use out of this (I am not a fan of umbrellas, though)
Last night the Mister came over and we tried the Pinnacle Cotton Candy.  Thanks Mister, you are always a good time! Then, I went bowling, but was late and only bowled the last game.  And then, well. . .sleep.
The plans for this weekend have changed slightly as K is going to a dance tonight and having company for the weekend.  So, I will be having my hair done, packing for my trip (but will we be making that trip if that storm hits the West Coast?? Mel, your thoughts??) and taking some video of M & B.  Oh, and getting K’s room sorted out once and for all!  Then I can post the “AFTER” photos since I already posted the “BEFORES”.
Company one night this weekend and I promised an action movie.  Probably ‘Unstoppable’ though I would rather watch drama or romance or. . . action is way down on the list.
Oh, so let’s get back to Spring.  Here are just a few things that I am looking forward to:
Opening all of the windows in the house and feeling that breeze flow through.
Dying Easter Eggs with the little ones.
The way the earth smells after a Spring shower.
WALKING in the sunshine.
The world dressed in its green finery with dashes of color.
The zoo (you can do this in winter, too, but warm weather is nicer).
The boys’ softball games.
Phipps Conservatory.

Rainy, snowy, cold weekend.

Perfect for staying in and watching movies...or going out to watch movies.  Picked up K Friday.  First, we went grocery shopping so she'd have something to eat.  Back home we settled in and watched Burlesque, which we had seen at the theater, but HAD to watch it again. and again the next day with Amanda and Kai.
Saturday morning - running back to the car after tanning
Saturday morning we drove into town so I could tan (gotta get that base before hitting Venice Beach), then to Loews to see Beastly. Though we got to the Waterfront early, sooooooo, you know, that meant Starbuck's.
Totally Tea
Okay, so there was a photo of a tree trunk hanging in SB, so we decided to take our own "artistic" photos.
Beastly was good. Really.  Afterwards, we picked up lunch at Steak n Shake for us and Amanda (who was cleaning the house for me (YOU TOTALLY RAWK!!)) and Kai came over and that's when we watched Burlesque, again.  Amanda went home, the girls texted. . . each other, friends, each other, me. Weird.  Looked into bowling but the leagues own the lanes after 6 p.m., plus, it's pretty pricey to bowl weekend evenings.  Thought about cosmic bowling, but knew I'd be too tired (getting old, shhh, don't tell anybody). So, we opted for Monster Golf in Monroeville.  Fun.
This is actually the last hole, but the best photo
After we finished, we topped off the evening at . . . guess!  I really need to take stock out in this place.  Actually, I am giving it up for Lent. Not just the coffee - Starbuck's itself.

I love these girls.  Even though they did tell me I was immature. Seriously? Moi? Seriously.
Sunday morning we woke up to this:
After packing up the girl-child, we lunched at TGIF, where she insisted on demonstrating how crunchy the fries were.  Hear the crunch??
Selecting the perfect fry
Hear the crunch?
Yeah, and I'm immature. Right-O, K-Bear!
The Officer who is also a Gentleman came over to watch Knight and Day and to let me know that I needed to learn how to defend myself. Either gun or knife.  I'll pass and thank you to do your job - protect me. He gets so exasperated.  I wonder why that is???

It's Friday . . . Again

Bowling last night and I did quite well!
Mister is home and b-u-s-y!
I'll pick K up tonight and we will go to the movies.
Tomorrow she will help clean the house.
Okay, tomorrow I will clean the house.
Not much else planned.
Oh, going to LA in a few weeks.
I'll need to make a list.
It's 52 degrees.  I wish I were outside walking.
Instead, I am inside working.
Really super busy.
That's not true.
Ready to go home.
This is sad.
I'll go surf the internet now.
Hi Mom!

I Want, I Need

So, I get this text, "I need UGGS by the end of March."  Ooooookay.  So, I text back, "Get a job."  Seriously. I searched on line for a sale. Well, the snow is over here for the most part.  Isn't it?  So, they should be on sale. Alas, no sales on grey, 1 button UGGS. Can you say OT?

Later I get a text, "I want 2 c beastly."  Oooooookay.  "What is beastly?"  "Look it up."  Seriously??? I did. It's a modern day Beauty and the Beast.  I watched the trailer. Cute.  It's a go.

Weekend Recap

Friday, Mom and I went to Applebee's for lunch, where I had a fabulous shrimp/spinach salad, (it was so good, I recreated it last night at home) and shopped up Pittsburgh Mills. (DB coupons!!) Wonderful day! Saturday was my spa day. I also went to Panera's for lunch with Mom, M & M.  Also began decluttering my darling K's room.  She has TOO MUCH STUFF!
The Before Photos
Ben visited. He is getting good at writing letters and words though maybe he should learn better words.

Saturday evening I watched "For Colored Girls."  Good movie.
Sunday I picked up K and took her for breakfast. We tried Denny's which we will not try again. At least not for breakfast.
Then Barnes and Noble for midday snack.
Taco Bell for lunch.
Sad I know.  I am ashamed. I was L-A-Z-Y. and I hadn't gone grocery shopping.
In the evening, my neighbors hosted an Oscar party.  It was my very first one.  I had a GREAT time!  They rolled out the red carpet:
Put out lots of food:
Joe, our host
and kept the drinks and shots flowing.
Andrea, our hostess
Monday, was COLD and RAINY. Amanda came to clean but I talked her into lunch and shopping.  We went to Barnes and Noble and bought a few dinosaur books for B.  He loves dinosaurs!
Then to Yankee Candle for some lovely spring scent.  Afterwards, lunch at Panera's where B made himself at home STAT!
And of course I can't leave the Waterfront without a stop at DB.  Plus Mel gave me her coupons!! So, I bought a dress . . . or two. And a shirt for Amanda.
And that's it. That was my weekend and now I'm back at work. Working. No, really.
