Welcome! the First Day of Autumn

Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree…

~Emily Brontë
How will you celebrate this first day of Fall???
I'm thinking Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte and lighting a few Yankee Candle fall scents, like pumpkin, cinnamon and apple.
Going for a walk around the neighborhood with little E and K in the evening to admire the changing leaves.
Earlier this week we dusted off the crockpot and cooked up a batch of white chicken chili.  The perfect autumn dinner.
Last month, we visited a farm to buy corn, this month, we'll visit again, but this time to buy apples.

This Past Weekend...

Another wonderful weekend!  Friday, I drove K over to her fiancee's house.  They had a funeral to attend the next day.  Back home, Elliot and I cleaned the living room, watched the Angry Birds movie for the umpteenth time (Elliot watches parts, and plays the whole time the film is on), built and rebuilt train track designs, stayed up too late.
Saturday morning was cool, HOT in the afternoon and beyond,  Mom and I drove the Giant Eagle to pick up a few things.  Elliot, finally being old enough to enjoy the Eagle's Nest, played.  Afterward, we went home and enjoyed our customary porch picnic.  I think we have had a porch picnic most weekends this summer. I know we should be working inside the house, BUT there will be plenty of time when the weather turns.  Agreed???  Elliot had a full and busy day and was asleep by 9:00.  Me time? Ha, I was asleep shortly after.
Sunday, even prettier and cooler than Saturday, Elliot and I started the day with yoga. Then we picked K up and later were visited by Amanda and boys.  K ordered a pizza, the boys rode big wheels and played.  We girls talked and talked and talked. I got a lot of laundry washed.  Elliot feel asleep early again.  After a nice hot shower, I had to call it a night, too.

Yesterday, was my Mom's 75th birthday.  Doesn't she look fabulous!!!!
We began her birthday celebration with cake and lunch on Monday and finished it off last night watching the Pirates WIN at PNC Park.  We had fun!
Last night was also Elliot's 1st baseball game.  Good memories all around!
The evening was HOT, but gorgeous!
Another perfect day!

This Month's Focus: the Home

September marks the start of my most favorite months of the year, September, October, November, December.  Don't get me wrong, I HEART summer weather, the long days, the bluest skies, sandals and sundresses.  However, the next four months are the busiest, most fun filled and heartwarming months of the year ... in my opinion.  This month we will start with readying our home for the cooler weather to come.  This weekend, we will begin with the yard - hosing down the sandbox, water table, play tent and a few bikes, to be stored in the basement.  Then we will pull out a few fall decorations and re-do the front hall.  A trip to Yankee Candle is in order to check out the new fall scents.  Then to the shoe store, we all three need new shoes.  We will also be going through our clothes, Elliot definitely is going to need a whole new fall wardrobe (he's growing more each day).  Kayla and I will need to add a few pairs of pants and a couple of sweaters.
We will also be celebrating my Mom's 75th birthday (that's today!) and my parents' anniversary.
There is so much to do (and learn!) and I am excited to get started.

What I Like About September

Hello September!  and here in Pittsburgh, PA, it is a beautiful September 1.  As I walked through town to the office this morning, I regaled in the soft blue sky and crisp breeze.

I like September because it’s like a preamble to the New Year, like getting a jump start on what you’d like to change, a time of renewal.  School is back in session, new routines (and bedtimes) need to be put in place.  Fall is just a few weeks away, and with that comes fall baking, apple picking, high school football, changing leaves, cooler evenings, and new earthy scents, like drying leaves.

With school comes learning and we are never too old to learn.  If Shimelle’s Learn Something New Every Day project is a go this year, I will be participating.  I look forward to this each year.  Although I have fallen away from paper scrap-booking, but will participate by blogging the lesson and making it a part of Project Life.

This month we begin working inside the house.  With the upcoming New Year, a new bambino will be joining our family.  (could be a girl, but the little stinker had her/his legs cross and the cord in between, so the ultrasound was a bust to that extent) #revealpartyonhold.  We have three major rooms to complete, the dining room, Kayla’s room and Elliot’s room.  After those are in place, we can begin creating the nursery – funsville!

What do you like about September?
